 | Why was the king so angry when those invited did not come to the wedding banquet? What point was Jesus making with this parable? |
The King was a man of Power, wealth, authority, yet full of love., but his so called friends were not worthy, and took him lightly. Friends who take people for granted and are never serious are sometimes very annoying. In this case, they became dangerous and murderous when they shamefully treated, and killed the servants of the king. The King was annoyed because the priority people he considered so highly turned against him, rejected him, and let him down. They took him for granted. They were ungrateful and undeserving, and so in their reckless action, they provocked the king`s anger. They were destroyed because they proved unreliable and worthless as friends to the king.
Two points were made clear: Firstly, the wedding feast was for Israel, but they rejected God`s love and offer of Jesus Christ the son of God, and this opened the door of salvation to willing gentiles to benefit from God`s love and favour. Secondly; even among the gentiles, one needed to wear the uniform- be washed in the blood of the lamb- or else one would be bundled up and thrown into outer darkness where there would be wailing and gnashing of teeth. There is no gatecrushing into the Kingdom of Heaven. The wedding gown was Jesus alone, and none else. By: Robert Ochen-Chagara - June 04, 2007 - Public Category: The Parable of the Wedding Banquet |
